The Štefánik Observatory

4.7 ·

Climb Petřín Hill to the Štefánik Observatory, a public stargazing spot open since 1928. Explore the astronomy exhibition, then look through the telescopes in its domes at planets and other celestial objects.

📖

Full description

The Štefánik Observatory is a public observatory on Petřín Hill, opened in 1928 and named after the astronomer and Czechoslovak statesman Milan Rastislav Štefánik. Its three domes allow both daytime and evening observation of planets and other space objects, while a permanent exhibition introduces astronomy and space science.

Visitors can combine the exhibition and a documentary screening with a telescope session, and staff are reported as knowledgeable and able to guide in English. Evening slots are especially recommended by past visitors for clearer, more atmospheric viewing.

A budget-friendly, quietly scenic option for couples and curious travellers.

Reviews

Don’t miss out this amazing observatory if you’d like to observe planets and space objects. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, available in English as well. Evening slot is highly recommended, we are lucky to observe the Jupiter and its moons. The walk to the observatory is also lovely, but a bit of elevation…
