Memorial to the Victims of Communism

4.5 ·

Pause at the Memorial to the Victims of Communism, a quiet and powerful stop in Malá Strana. Walk along the steps beside seven bronze figures that grow more fragmented as they climb, then continue on into Petřín Gardens.

📖

Full description

Set at the foot of Petřín Hill in Malá Strana, this memorial consists of seven bronze figures ascending a broad flight of steps, their bodies progressively more fragmented and eroded toward the front of the group. The effect is deliberately unsettling, and reviewers describe the atmosphere as eerie, solemn and silent in its message.

It is free, open around the clock and takes about 15 minutes, so it fits easily into a walk between Malá Strana and the hill's gardens. Photographs are common, though visitors note they do not capture the weight of seeing the figures in person.

Reviews

The sculpture had a very eerie and uncanny energy to it, really selling the point it was meant to make. Sorrowful, powerful and silent in its message. Photos don't sell the energy of the place, must be seen in person
