Museu de Lisboa - Teatro Romano

4.4 ·

Step into the Museu de Lisboa – Teatro Romano and see the Roman theatre of ancient Olisipo. Walk among the excavated stones and artefacts that reveal how the city looked two thousand years ago.

📖

Full description

The Museu de Lisboa – Teatro Romano is built over the remains of the Roman theatre of Olisipo, from the era of Emperor Augustus. Most of the theatre still lies beneath the surrounding streets, so the museum explains both its present state and how it once looked.

A small collection of artefacts accompanies the visible ruins. It is a compact stop in the old town, and the ticket can be combined with other museums in the same municipal group.

Reviews

While most of the theatre is still hidden below the street, the museum works well to show you both how it is now, and how it was then. There's a small but interesting museum, containing many artefacts found during excavations. The museum also features a terrace for a great viewpoint
