Full description

Housed in a building once used to detain and interrogate political opponents of the Estado Novo regime, the Aljube Museum tells the story of repression and resistance in Portugal. Exhibits are spread over several floors and combine personal testimonies, documents and original cells with rotating temporary shows.

Reviewers describe it as well organised and genuinely informative, offering a clear picture of Portugal's political history over the past century. It is a thoughtful, low-effort stop near the cathedral that rewards visitors curious about modern Portuguese history.

Reviews

This Museum shares a very important part of Portugal's modern history. It's a nice eclectic mix of both the story of the resistance, notable temporary exhibits, as well as the fabulous building that it's in withit's own histor. Pro tip...amazing views of the Sé Cathedral
