Temple of Athena Nike

4.8 ·

Pause at the Temple of Athena Nike, the small Ionic temple guarding the Acropolis entrance. Study its four slender columns and carved marble details before heading up to the Parthenon.

📖

Full description

The Temple of Athena Nike stands on a high bastion beside the Propylaea, at the entrance to the Acropolis. Smaller than the Parthenon, it is an Ionic temple with four monolithic columns at each end and decorated marble slabs, dedicated to Athena as goddess of victory.

Reviewers often name it as a personal favourite for its grace and fine detail, noting that its compact scale makes it easy to appreciate up close from the walkway. It is part of the Acropolis visit and usually takes around 15 minutes, with views from the bastion adding to the stop.
