Climb the Acropolis to stand before the Parthenon, the Doric temple that anchors the Athens skyline. Walk the grounds around the columns and take in the city spread out below.

📖

Full description

The Parthenon crowns the Acropolis and is the most recognisable ancient monument in Athens, its Doric columns dating from construction that began in 447 BC. Reviewers describe the walk up the hill as part of the experience, leaving the busy city behind, and note that scaffolding and restoration work are a long-running feature of the site.

Many also recommend seeing it from Thissio at sunset and at night for a different perspective. Booking is recommended, and a visit to the temple area takes around 30 minutes.

Reviews

I went with a tour group, learned some history, got some pretty great photos. If you're ever in Greece I recommend visiting at least once. Note: some parts are slippery, please watch your step.
