Schwarzenbergplatz

Pause at Schwarzenbergplatz, a grand square where Vienna's architectural eras meet. Look up at the 1867 Schwarzenberg statue and the baroque and art nouveau palaces lining the plaza, all within a quick 15-minute stop.

📖

Full description

Schwarzenbergplatz is an open urban plaza on the edge of Vienna's Innere Stadt, centred on the 1867 equestrian statue of the Prince of Schwarzenberg. The surrounding buildings span baroque-era palaces and art nouveau facades, making it a good place to read the city's layered architecture at a glance.

It is open around the clock and takes only a few minutes to take in, so it works as a quick pause between larger sights rather than a destination in itself. The square is especially pleasant at dusk, when the monument and neighbouring facades are lit.
