Santa Maria Zobenigo

4.7 ·

Step into Santa Maria Zobenigo, a Baroque church just off the Grand Canal. Study the sculpted facade with its relief city maps, then slip inside to see the sacred paintings and the small treasury.

📖

Full description

Built in 1681, Santa Maria Zobenigo stands out for a Baroque facade that is more monument than church front, decorated with sculpted figures and relief maps of Rome and five other cities. Inside, the space is small and calm, with sacred paintings, a decorated ceiling, and a treasury holding an unexpected painting from a distant artistic tradition.

Visitors can light votive candles for a small donation. It sits a short walk from the Grand Canal and works well as a brief, atmospheric stop between larger sights in the San Marco area, taking around fifteen minutes.

Reviews

Nice little church we visited. We have the city pass which allow us to visit once free for this church. Quite small but not sure why is not free to visit as nearby church is free. Love the ceiling and the paintings in the church. There is no toilets in the church. Photos are allowed. A lot of nearby food and coffee…
