Step into Hofgarten, the elegant court garden beside Munich's royal Residenz. Stroll the symmetrical paths between flower beds and lawns, and rest beneath the central pavilion before moving on.

📖

Full description

Hofgarten is the Renaissance-style garden attached to Munich's royal Residenz, laid out in 1613 under Elector Maximilian I. Its clipped lawns, symmetrical flower beds and broad gravel paths are arranged around a central pavilion, with arcades along the edges.

Compact enough for a short stop, it works as a pleasant breather between sights in the city centre, and it is especially photogenic in autumn when the trees change colour. Walking and cycling paths run through the grounds, and the setting suits quiet, unhurried time on a bench.

Reviews

No so big, but beautiful garden with wide aisles for walking. One of the biggest pluses for me was autumn colors, making walking through the park even nicer and very photogenic.
