National Pantheon

4.5 ·

Step inside Lisbon's National Pantheon, the white-domed baroque church that now honours the nation's heroes. Wander among the tombs, then climb to the terraces for a panoramic look over the rooftops and the river.

📖

Full description

Begun as a church in the 17th century and long left unfinished, the National Pantheon was later converted into a mausoleum for national celebrities, its white dome now a fixture of Lisbon's skyline. Inside, visitors see the tombs and memorials of figures from Portuguese history, including Vasco da Gama's tomb, as reviewers note.

A staircase leads up to terraces with panoramic views over the city and river. Visits are short and uncrowded according to recent visitors, making it an easy add-on to a walk through the surrounding neighbourhood.

It is closed on Mondays.

Reviews

National Pantheon was great we used our Lisboa card to get in worth it. No line up’s at all we got to see Vasco De Gama tomb. We also climbed the stairs to see the panoramic view of the city. I loved when we got to the top of the pantheon how high you actually feel up there. I wanted to go right to the top which would…
