Stand in the Main Square, the grand open centre of Krakow's Old Town. Circle the Cloth Hall, admire the surrounding churches, and settle at a cafe table to watch the city move.

📖

Full description

The Main Square is the open heart of Krakow's Stare Miasto, a large medieval plaza surrounded by historic townhouses, churches and the Cloth Hall. Visitors spend hours here simply watching the city go by, and reviewers describe it as heavily touristy yet still splendid thanks to its size.

It is open 24 hours and free, so it suits a short crossing or a long stay with a coffee. The square also serves as a base for nearby sights, including the Francis of Assisi church just to the south.

Early mornings and evenings tend to feel calmer than midday.
