Pause at the Column of the Goths, a lesser-known Roman monument tucked into a calm corner of Istanbul. Look up at the single block of marble, then rest on a nearby bench before moving on.

📖

Full description

The Column of the Goths is a Roman monument noted for being made from a single slab of marble. It stands in a peaceful spot where benches circle the column, and reviewers mention it as a place to sit and relax, especially in the early morning with a simit.

It is free, open at all hours and takes about 15 minutes. Visitors describe it as relaxing rather than dramatic, so it works best as a short, quiet stop for those who enjoy lesser-known ancient monuments away from the main crowds.

Reviews

A wonderful spot to sit, relax, and enjoy some peace and quiet. When I'm in Istanbul I love to spend early mornings munching on a sirit while sitting on one of benches surrounding the historical column. There are also plenty of trees to sit under for a picnic.
