Piazzale Michelangelo

4.8 ·

Climb to Piazzale Michelangelo for the classic panorama of Florence. Take in the Duomo and Arno from the terrace, and see the bronze David standing above the city.

📖

Full description

Piazzale Michelangelo is a nineteenth-century terrace on the hill south of the Arno, famous for its panoramic view of Florence's rooftops, the Duomo and the river, with a bronze replica of Michelangelo's David at its centre. Reaching it involves a climb of steps or winding roads, and the reward is a wide outlook especially popular at sunrise and sunset.

Reviewers warn that the terrace gets very crowded before sunset and offers little shade, so timing matters. It is free and open at all hours, and half an hour is typically enough to enjoy the view.

Reviews

A beautiful place to see the city of Florence and watch the sunrise or sunset. Be warned however that especially during the sunset hours the place gets very crowded and there is no shade. There is often a musician playing during these times, which provides a lovely ambiance. There is a short hike up to the viewpoint,…
