Step into Surgeons' Hall Museum, set in a neoclassical building from 1832. Examine historic anatomy specimens and trace how Edinburgh shaped modern surgery, ideally with the guided Blood and Guts tour.

📖

Full description

Surgeons' Hall Museum occupies a classical building from 1832 belonging to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Its galleries combine surgical history with a pathology collection of anatomical specimens, and visiting exhibitions add variety.

Reviewers who work in medicine enjoy the depth of the history section, while others recommend the guided Blood and Guts tour as a clear introduction to Edinburgh's role in developing surgical practice. The subject matter is graphic in places, which suits curious adults well.

Allow about 75 minutes, more if you want to linger over the specimens.
