Talbot Rice Gallery is run by the University of Edinburgh and pairs a modern white gallery for changing exhibitions with a historic Georgian room that holds part of the university's collection, including Colourist paintings and Old Masters. Reviewers praise the curatorial choices and the contrast between architecture and contemporary work, and one recent visitor was struck by a show of large, colourful sheets made from bottle tops.

Entry is free and a visit takes around 45 minutes, so it fits neatly between other stops. It is closed on Mondays.
