Full description

Old College is one of the University of Edinburgh's oldest buildings, an imposing stone complex set around a broad quadrangle just south of the Royal Mile. Visitors come mainly for the architecture and the open courtyard, which reviewers describe as wide, well kept and distinctly scholarly in mood.

It also turns up on screen, with one reviewer recalling it as a backdrop in Journey to the Center of the Earth. A visit is short, around 15 minutes, and suits a quiet wander or a photo stop between Old Town sights.

Entry to the courtyard is free.
