Settle into The Royal Playhouse and The Old Stage, Copenhagen's historic Royal Danish Theatre on Kongens Nytorv. Take in a ballet, opera or concert beneath chandeliers and decorated ceilings in a 19th-century hall.

📖

Full description

The Royal Playhouse and The Old Stage is the historic Royal Danish Theatre building, opened in 1874, with classical architecture, a dome and a flower-filled garden at the front. Inside, chandeliers, painted ceilings and period detail frame performances by the Royal Danish Ballet, Opera and Orchestra, as well as drama and concerts.

Reviewers highlight both the setting and the quality of the ballet. It sits in the heart of the city by Kongens Nytorv, making it an easy start or end to an evening in the centre.

Performances take place from the afternoon into the evening, and the theatre is closed on Mondays.

Reviews

Watched a metal concert by Opeth here in 2019 and most recently the Nutcracker musical in Dec 2021. Beautiful theatre though I wish the seats had a bit more space. It's obviously a very old building but well maintained.
