St. Gerard Sagredo Statue

4.6 ·

Climb to the St. Gerard Sagredo statue for one of the Danube's most framed views. Stand beneath the colonnade, watch the waterfall below, and look across the river to Pest.

📖

Full description

Halfway up Gellért Hill, directly above the Buda foot of Elisabeth Bridge, a curved neoclassical colonnade frames a large bronze statue of St. Gerard Sagredo, an 11th-century Venetian monk and missionary bishop.

A man-made waterfall tumbles down the slope below the monument, adding to its theatrical setting. Reviewers rate the vantage point for views across the river to Pest and describe the climb as easy, whether approached from the bridge by foot or by bus.

The monument works well as a short stop on the way up toward the Citadel, and it looks equally good by day or lit at night.

Reviews

Majestic place! The size is just impressive. The atmosphere is kind of special. Plus, the viewpoint of the whole city is amazing from up there. The statue is also beautiful! Definitely worth visiting.
