Elisabeth Bridge

4.6 ·

Walk across Elisabeth Bridge, the pared-back white span joining Buda and Pest. Pause mid-river for views of Gellért Hill and the Danube, especially as the lights come on in the evening.

📖

Full description

Elisabeth Bridge crosses the Danube where the river is only around 290 metres wide, connecting the Pest embankment near the city centre with the foot of Gellért Hill on the Buda side. It was rebuilt in a clean modern suspension design after the original was destroyed in 1945, and it is named after Empress Elisabeth, known in Hungary as Sisi.

The footpaths make it an easy short walk, and the views of the river and Gellért Hill are good by day and when it is lit after dark. Allow only a few minutes for the crossing itself.

One of the most beautiful bridges from Budapest! Worth seeing it and walking on it, if you visit Budapest!
