Step into the Museum of Fine Arts, a neoclassical landmark in Budapest's XIV. district. Move from Egyptian antiquities through Renaissance works to 19th-century paintings, guided by clear signage in every room.

📖

Full description

The Museum of Fine Arts, in XIV. kerület, occupies a grand neoclassical building and covers an Egyptian collection, Renaissance frescoes and a broad range of European painting and sculpture. Reviewers praise the unusually good contextual labelling, for every room and even individual items, and describe a well-organised route that feels like travelling through time.

The vast entrance halls are striking, though they can be busy. A bronze horse and rider attributed to Leonardo da Vinci is often mentioned as a highlight.

Plan about 90 minutes for a satisfying overview.

Reviews

Very nice art museum, while not with huge famous pieces it is compensating with best context signs, for every room and even indevidual items. Super well organized, you feel you travel through time and countries and art topics. M thing here is just hanging everything is in context of the story the museum is telling…
