Gellért Hill

4.7 ·

Climb Gellért Hill for sweeping views over the Danube and the city's bridges. Follow green paths past scenic balconies, then descend a different side to see the skyline from new angles.

📖

Full description

Gellért Hill is a green, steep hill in District I that climbs straight up from the Danube and offers some of the city's best views over both Buda and Pest. Paths wind through well-kept parkland to balconies overlooking the bridges, and snack kiosks appear along the route.

The climb is demanding, so many visitors take a bus or ride share to the top and walk down a different side. Allow around 90 minutes, and note that sunrise and sunset visits are especially popular for the skyline.

Reviews

For me this is the best area of Budapest. Great for hiking, so green, often feels like countryside (which is refreshing with all the city vibe of Budapest), not so crowded besides Citadel (which is anyway also cool to see), best views, especially the dramatic drop on Danube river when you descend towards Liberty…
