The Deutscher Dom, known here as Neue Kirche, was built in the early 18th century as a Lutheran counterpart to the Französischer Dom, and the two churches were later redesigned with matching domed towers to frame Gendarmenmarkt in perfect symmetry — a detail reviewers say is even more striking once pointed out. Inside, a steep staircase climbs toward an upper viewing platform, though as some visitors note, fencing can limit how open the view feels once you reach the top.

It's free to enter, less crowded than its French counterpart, and sits at the heart of one of Berlin's most elegant squares alongside the Konzerthaus. Around 30 minutes is enough for the climb and a look at the square from above.

The architecture here is stunning! I love how it’s perfectly symmetrical with the French Cathedral (Französischer Dom) on the other side of the square. It makes the whole Gendarmenmarkt look incredibly elegant. Definitely a great spot for some photos if you appreciate beautiful buildings.
