Built mainly between the 13th and 15th centuries over an earlier Romanesque church, the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia anchors the Gothic Quarter with soaring vaulted ceilings and a neo-Gothic façade added much later, in the 19th and 20th centuries. Its cloister is one of the more unusual features of any European cathedral, housing thirteen white geese, said to represent the age of Saint Eulalia at her martyrdom, alongside a lush garden of palm trees and magnolias.

The rooftop terrace, reached by elevator, offers a close-up view over the Gothic Quarter's rooftops. Entry is free during certain hours and reduced-price otherwise, making it accessible on nearly any budget.
