Wander up to the Zappeion, the neoclassical hall built for the first modern Olympics. Take 20 minutes to admire its colonnaded facade and stroll the quiet gardens around it.

📖

Full description

The Zappeion is a neoclassical exhibition hall set within the leafy National Garden in central Athens, built in the 1880s and tied to the revival of the modern Olympic Games. It now serves as a conference and event venue, and entry to the grounds is free.

Reviewers describe an elegant, uncrowded setting compared with busier Athens sights, and mention a flea market sometimes held in front of the hall. A visit is short, around 20 minutes, making it an easy stop for a stroll among the gardens and a look at the colonnaded facade.

Reviews

A historic and cultural hall of Athens with a free entrance. There was a flea market right in front of the Zappeion Hall too, and I loved the vibes here! Not too crowded, compared with other touristic locations. Highly recommend!
