Stoa of Attalos - Museum of the Ancient Agora

4.7 ·

Walk through the Stoa of Attalos, a rebuilt ancient colonnade at the edge of the Agora. Browse the museum's artifacts of Athenian daily life, then step to the upper floor for views over the site.

📖

Full description

The Stoa of Attalos was a long covered colonnade where Athenians once shopped and met, and it was rebuilt in the 20th century so visitors can see how an ancient public building actually looked. Today it houses the Museum of the Ancient Agora, with finds from daily Athenian life on display in a calm, air-conditioned interior.

The upper floor gives a view toward the Temple of Hephaestus and the Acropolis. Reviewers praise the architecture and describe the museum as small but interesting, easy to walk through in around 45 minutes.

Reviews

A nice museum. Small but with several interesting exhibits. The rooms are air-conditioned, providing a brief respite from the heat outside. From the upper floor, there's a beautiful view of the Temple of Hephaestus and the Ancient Agora. Entrance to the museum is included in the price of the Agora ticket.
