Find the Tower of the Winds in the Roman Agora, a 2,000-year-old marble clock tower. Spot the eight carved wind figures and imagine its water clock and weather vane at work.

📖

Full description

Better known as the Tower of the Winds, this octagonal marble tower in the Roman Agora was built around the 1st century BC by Andronikos of Kyrrhos. It functioned as a timekeeping and weather station, with sundials on its faces, a wind vane on top and a water clock inside.

Reviewers note the carved wind figures and the tower's surprisingly sophisticated design. It is part of the Roman Agora site and can be seen from adjacent cafes, though some visitors found it unclear how to approach it for a closer look.

Reviews

We couldn't figure out hoe to go in and see it closer. We stopped and had some drinks and chips right by it, which was a spectacular view to behold!
