Duck into the Herakleidon Museum for an inventive break from the Athens sun. Handle replicas of ancient Greek machines, from clocks to cranes and astronomy tools, and browse the art exhibition on show.

📖

Full description

Founded by Pavlos and Belinda Fyros in 2004 and run as a non-profit since 2008, the Herakleidon Museum occupies a restored building in a busy, much-visited part of central Athens. Its permanent display highlights the technological achievements of the ancient Greeks, with replicas of timekeeping devices, construction cranes and astronomical instruments that visitors can engage with.

Alongside this, the museum hosts art exhibitions from around the world. Reviewers find it a worthwhile, compact stop, particularly during the midday heat before or after exploring the neighbourhood, and a good fit for families and curious travellers.
