Temple of Hephaestus

4.8 ·

Walk up to the Temple of Hephaestus, the most complete ancient temple in Greece. Circle its Doric columns and carved friezes above the Agora, and compare the view with the Acropolis across the way.

📖

Full description

The Temple of Hephaestus is a Doric marble temple on Agoraios Kolonos, overlooking the Ancient Agora. It is regarded as the best-preserved ancient Greek temple standing today, with its columns, walls, and much of the original frieze work still in place, so visitors can see how a roofed temple was proportioned.

It is also visible from the Acropolis as a small distant building. Reviewers recommend visiting after the Acropolis and describe the Agora grounds as peaceful for walking and reflection.

Allow around 30 minutes, longer if you explore the surrounding site.

Better to go early in the day to avoid crowds and heat. The main entrance is…
