Cloister of Bramante

4.5 (8,634)$ · Budget-friendly

Designed by the architect Donato Bramante in the early 1500s for the adjoining church of Santa Maria della Pace, this elegant two-story cloister survives as one of Rome's quieter Renaissance spaces, now used to host temporary immersive exhibitions on themes ranging from flowers to digital art installations. Reviews are notably divided: some find the rotating shows genuinely striking and well-produced, while others describe the experience as a polished but commercially-driven attraction disconnected from the historic architecture itself. A 4.5 rating and moderate must-see score reflect that split - the building's architectural pedigree is real, even if the current programming draws mixed reactions. What's on show at any given time significantly shapes the experience, so checking the current exhibition is worthwhile before visiting.

What people say

"To me it’s contrived tourist- money maker. Some beautiful, creative displays, particularly the immersive rooms, but it still all seemed cheap and just to take as much money as possible. The first room was the best and the taxidermy room and the book about insects in Suriname —-… the rest, I could pass on. The gift shops— 2 rooms— is enormous and they spent effort to make it glamorous🌸. High prices but there were a couple of interesting trinkets. You cannot really even appreciate the building - a stunning historic cloister near Piazza I found the digital or AI elements to be of lower quality compared to the classical art. No need to book in advance— no lines … word is out that the exhibit is not good value for money. 19€ entry. (Better value to get 5€ MIC card. You can get ticket at window but the lady is unprofessional and spends most of time that I saw talking to her mother on the phone. Tip: if you just want to hang out in the café, don’t pay for the exhibition. You must specify this at entry."
