Vyšehrad

4.8 ·

Climb to Vyšehrad, Prague's quieter hilltop fortress above the Vltava. Walk the ramparts, step inside the basilica and settle in the park for views back across the city.

📖

Full description

Vyšehrad is a fortified complex on a rocky height above the river, combining historic walls, parkland, a basilica, a museum and underground passages. Visitors describe a calm atmosphere compared with the main tourist areas, with well-kept gardens, a church interior they find striking and long views across the river.

The grounds are open around the clock and free to enter, making it easy to fit into a morning or an evening walk. Allow roughly 90 minutes to circle the ramparts, see the church and enjoy the park.

Reviews

I was intrigued by Vyšehrad after reading it described as Prague’s best kept secret. What a wonderful afternoon I had. The inside of the church is stunning. The park close by also. The views of the river and the headstones in the cemetery next to the church are beautiful. Would go back for sure.
