The Vrtba Garden

4.7 ·

Slip through a plain passage into the Vrtba Garden, a Baroque terraced gem tucked away in Malá Strana. Climb its tiers past sculptures and the pool to a quiet viewpoint over the rooftops.

📖

Full description

Hidden behind an unassuming street entrance in Malá Strana, the Vrtba Garden is a Baroque terraced garden laid out between 1715 and 1720 and attributed to architect František Maxmilián Kaňka. Its tiers rise up the hillside with sculptures, staircases and a pool, ending with views over the Lesser Town roofs toward the castle.

Compact and carefully maintained, it is best treated as a short, calm stop of around 30 minutes rather than a full outing. Reviewers call it serene and well kept, though some note the modest entry fee.

Reviews

A true hidden gem in the heart of the Lesser Town. The Vrtba Garden is one of the most serene and well-maintained spots in Prague. The tiered Baroque architecture provides a stunning backdrop, and the view from the upper terrace is unmatched. It feels like a peaceful oasis, far removed from the typical tourist crowds.…
