Strahov Library

3.4 ·

Peek into Strahov Library, the frescoed book halls crowning Prague's Hradčany hill. Admire the painted ceilings and historic shelves from the doorway, or arrange a private tour for a closer look.

📖

Full description

Part of the Premonstratensian monastery complex on Prague's Hradčany hill, Strahov Library is famous for its ceiling frescoes and shelves of historic volumes. Visitors admire the two principal halls from the entrance rather than walking inside, a point that divides reviews: some find the view worth the ticket, others feel the access is too limited for the price.

The visit itself is short, around 20 minutes. Those wanting a closer look can arrange a small private tour in advance by email, which reviewers say brings the art and books into much clearer focus.

Reviews

It was a 5 minutes walk from th tram station (we took tram 22). We did not buy the ticket for the gallery, we only bought the library ticket. It is a beautiful place, you can only view it or take photos from the outside. Then there are plenty of collections on display. I think it will be an easier walk to the Prague…
