Church of Saint Francis

4.4 ·

Step into the Church of Saint Francis, a 14th-century Gothic church wrapped in gold. Admire the baroque altarpieces and carved gilt wood, then head down to the catacombs.

📖

Full description

The Church of Saint Francis stands beside the Palácio da Bolsa and is known for its Gothic facade and an interior covered in gilt woodwork and baroque altarpieces. Entry is paid, and reviewers rate the cost as worthwhile for the variety of spaces on offer, including the catacombs.

A visit takes about half an hour, and it combines easily with the neighbouring Bolsa Palace in a single outing through the old town. It stands out for the density of ornate detail inside compared with the plainer exterior.

Reviews

Beautiful Church in Old Town. 13.50EUR per person, more than surrounding and comparable Churches but worth the visit. Many beautiful spaces, the catacombs are interesting. All in all I would recommend a visit if you're doing the tourist thing in Porto.
