Full description

Adega São Nicolau is a small, cosy restaurant tucked into a narrow, steep alleyway, where some tables sit outdoors on the steps with a view over the street. It serves traditional, homestyle Portuguese specialties, with grilled sardines singled out by diners.

The place is popular enough that queues form outside, and reviewers say the wait is worth it. With a 4.3 rating from over 4,000 reviews and mid-range pricing, it suits couples and small groups looking for atmosphere as much as food.

It stays open from midday through late evening every day.

Reviews

Be prepared to wait for dinner but it’s worth the wait. To drink I had a gin & tonic and others shared a bottle of wine and they were both lovely. We share the grilled sardines which were fantastic and I had the sea bass that was also fantastic.
