Head to Campo Alegre Theatre, a local favourite for contemporary performance in Porto. Watch an experimental play, dance piece or film screening, then have a drink at the theatre bar.
Full description
Campo Alegre Theatre is a municipal venue programming contemporary theatre, dance and cinema, and it serves as one of the key stages for Porto's annual dance festival. Reviewers highlight an auditorium with good visibility everywhere, a bar serving decent food and drinks at fair prices, and staff who help non-Portuguese speakers find their way.
Performances often lean experimental and thought-provoking, which makes it more of a local arts night than a tourist spectacle. Evenings are the strongest time to go.

Helpful staff...as tourists we were quite lost and clueless, but were helped graciously. And witnessed a wonderful play (on the lines of experimental theatre) about the colonialism in Portugal and its after effects...even though we don't understand Portuguese, we were very moved by the performances.
