London Canal Museum

4.6 (455)$ · Budget-friendly

Housed in a Victorian building once used to store ice imported from Norway, the London Canal Museum traces the history of the capital's canal network and the families who lived and worked on narrowboats. Reviewers, including families with young children, mention enjoying hands-on elements like climbing aboard a boat-pulling tractor. Its modest scores across the board reflect a small, specialist local museum rather than a major attraction, appealing most to those with a specific interest in industrial or canal history. What people say

"Visited the London Canal Museum with my museum social group, MACS (Museum, Art and Culture Socials) for their Ice Sunday festival! We descended into the Victorian ice wells (safety first with hard hats on) and watched an ice cream making demonstration by a historian portraying the Victorian “Queen of Ices” Agnes Marshall, who ran a cooking school in London and invented the ice cream cone. We even got to taste the delicious hand-churned ice cream in Madagascan Vanilla and Marmalade flavours! There was also a talk about the Victorian ice trade and of course the whole museum was open to visit as well, along with canal boat rides. Ice Sunday is an annual event so sign up to their mailing list and book as soon as tickets are available. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers at the London Canal Museum for a brilliant day out!"
