Restauradores Square

4.6 ·

Pause at Restauradores Square, one of Lisbon's largest and most central plazas. Circle the towering obelisk, read the story of 1640 independence it commemorates, and watch the city's traffic and café life flow around you.

📖

Full description

Praça dos Restauradores is one of the largest squares in Lisbon, named after the Restoration of Portuguese independence from Spain in 1640. At its centre stands an obelisk monument, with restaurants and cafés lining the outer edges of the surrounding traffic circle.

Reviewers describe it as a simple plaza in the middle of a busy road, where most people gather along the perimeter rather than in the middle, and the northern end offers some shade. It is open around the clock and takes about a quarter of an hour to see, which makes it a natural stop between the central districts.

Reviews

A simple plaza in the middle of a busy circle. You won’t find many folks around this but more along the outer circle restaurants. I would recommend a quick visit. The northern end of the plaza is shaded with trees. Good place to take a break away from the sun.
