📖

Full description

Wawel Royal Castle crowns a limestone hill above the Vistula and served for centuries as the seat of Polish kings. Begun in the 14th century and reworked in later styles, it centres on an arcaded Renaissance courtyard, with state rooms and museum collections housed inside and gardens on the surrounding grounds.

Visitors describe a large site with plenty of detail to take in, from the exterior and courtyard to the views over the river. Allow around two and a half hours, and expect to move between several separate exhibitions and outdoor areas on a medium amount of walking.
