Kraków Barbican

4.6 ·

Take a look at the Krakow Barbican, a rare surviving piece of the city's medieval defences. Walk its brick walls beside Floriańska Gate, then relax in the park around it.

📖

Full description

The Barbican is a round defensive gateway dating to the 1490s, built to protect the approach to the city walls and now part of the Historical Museum of Krakow. Its brick form is well preserved and sits beside Floriańska Gate within a small park, so even a quick look from outside gives a sense of the city's medieval defences.

Reviewers appreciate how affordable the ticket is for a building that has survived more than five centuries, while others note that the interior can be closed, so the exterior alone is sometimes the visit. It is closed on Mondays and takes about 30 minutes inside.
