Apteka pod Orłem

4.5 ·

Step into Apteka pod Orłem, the pharmacy that stayed open inside the Krakow Ghetto. Open its drawers and cupboards to read and listen to first-hand stories from the occupation years.

📖

Full description

Opened in 1910, this pharmacy stood inside the Krakow Ghetto during the Nazi occupation and was run by Tadeusz Pankiewicz, the only non-Jewish pharmacist in the ghetto. Today it works as a small, focused museum on the Jewish experience of the occupation.

Visitors open drawers and cupboards to read and listen to personal stories, which makes the displays feel intimate rather than academic. Reviewers describe it as compact but powerful, and note it can be quiet enough to take everything in at your own pace.

Allow about an hour.

Reviews

A small but powerful museum pharmacy with deep historical significance. Originally opened in 1910, it operated inside the Kraków Ghetto during WWII and was run by Tadeusz Pankiewicz, who helped the Jewish community with aid and support. The exhibition is moving and well presented.Small but definitely worth seeing,…
