Remains of the Ghetto wall

4.4 ·

Pause at the Remains of the Ghetto Wall, a rare physical trace of wartime Podgórze. Read the memorial plaque and take a quiet moment before continuing to Ghetto Heroes Square.

📖

Full description

This stretch of stone wall in Podgórze is one of the few remaining pieces of the barrier built around the Krakow Ghetto in 1941, and a memorial plaque marks it. The best-known preserved section lies along Lwowska Street, close to Ghetto Heroes Square.

It appears almost unexpectedly among ordinary streets, which is part of its impact, and visitors treat it as a place for a brief moment of reflection rather than a long stop. Free and open at all hours, it fits easily into a walk through Podgórze and adds context to the neighbourhood's wartime history.

Reviews

In Stare Podgórze you can still find fragments of the wall from the Kraków Ghetto, a haunting relic of World War II. The most well-known preserved section stands along Lwowska Street. Unlike a typical wall, parts of it were deliberately designed to resemble rows of Jewish tombstones.
