Beyazit Mosque

4.8 ·

Step into Beyazit Mosque, an early-16th-century imperial complex tucked beside the Grand Bazaar. Spend about 20 minutes in its calm courtyard and prayer hall, taking in the city view from the grounds.

📖

Full description

Beyazit Mosque is among the oldest surviving imperial mosques in Istanbul, built in the early 1500s as part of a complex that also included a school, baths and a soup kitchen. It sits on the edge of Beyazıt Square beside the Grand Bazaar, yet the grounds feel calmer than the surrounding streets.

Visitors can enter free of charge, and reviewers praise the welcoming staff and locals, the generous prayer hall, and the courtyard view over the city. A visit takes about 20 minutes and fits easily between the bazaar and nearby university and square.

As an active place of worship, modest dress and respect for prayer times apply.
