The square itself is free and open day and night, but climbing the dome or entering the cathedral requires separate tickets that are best bought in advance. About half an hour is enough to take in the facades, longer if you plan to queue for any of the sights.

This is one of the greatest temples built by humanity. A real treasure of culture. So much detail it's hard to focus on a single aspect of it. To take the tour to the top of the dome buy your tickets 3 months in advance. They're sold out.
