📖

Full description

Mercato di Sant'Ambrogio is a traditional Florentine market, open since 1873 and made up of an indoor hall and an outdoor section. Reviewers say it feels far more local than the touristy markets, with residents doing their daily shopping among stalls of fruit, vegetables and specialty foods.

It sits about a 15-minute walk from the centre, so it is easy to reach on foot. Opening hours run from the morning to early afternoon, which makes it a good early-day stop, and a visit of around 45 minutes covers it comfortably.

Reviews

Nice little Mercato, not too busy when we went and the vendors were so friendly and took me up when I engaged them to a blind tasting cheese challenge that lead to blind tasting EVOO, and then jam, and then cake and bread. Loved it! Cannot wait to go back. There's a stall ran by lovely Stefano and his son Giovanni…
