Church of Sant'Ambrogio

4.5 ·

Slip into the Church of Sant'Ambrogio, one of Florence's least-trumpeted churches. Behind the plain facade, take your time with Renaissance sculpture and the Gothic-reworked interior in near silence.

📖

Full description

The Church of Sant'Ambrogio sits in the quiet eastern part of Florence, once part of a Benedictine convent complex with origins in the 14th century. Its plain facade gives little away, but the interior holds a Gothic-revised layout and Renaissance sculpture, including work by Mino da Fiesole.

Reviewers call it undervalued yet significant for its history and the artworks inside. It draws far fewer visitors than the big-name basilicas, which makes for a calm, unhurried stop of around an hour.
