Chiesa di Santa Maria del Carmine

4.5 ·

Visit Santa Maria del Carmine for one of Florence's great Renaissance fresco cycles. Book ahead, then spend about 45 minutes in the Brancacci Chapel and the restored Baroque church around it.

📖

Full description

Santa Maria del Carmine is known above all for the Brancacci Chapel, lined with landmark Renaissance frescoes. The church itself is a restored Baroque building with an unfinished facade, and reviewers mention ongoing restoration in places as well as a small chapel of Saint Agnes with partially surviving frescoes.

Unlike many churches here, it carries a modest entry fee and booking is recommended, reflecting the demand for the chapel. Plan around 45 minutes, the longest visit in this group, and aim for morning or early evening when it is calmer.

Reviews

The Church is still under restoration, so you might not be thrilled, nevertheless there is a tiny chapel of Saint Agnes’s with partially survived frescoes. Don’t miss it. These are very particular.
