Explore the National Museum of Ireland on Kildare Street, where a grand Victorian rotunda opens onto Irish archaeology. Study Bronze Age gold, Viking and medieval finds, and a few Egyptian artefacts, all free to enter.

📖

Full description

The National Museum of Ireland on Kildare Street occupies a Victorian building with a grand rotunda at its heart and presents local archaeological finds from the Bronze Age, Viking and medieval periods, plus a few Egyptian items. Reviewers highlight the well-curated gold exhibition and say the displays go on far longer than expected, with information provided in two languages and some interactive elements.

Admission is free. Because the collection is large, it is easy to spend more than the typical 90 minutes, and Monday opening hours are shorter than on other days.

Reviews

I think this museum is spectacular, and I say this even though I didn't have the chance to visit it completely (I had little time). I have to say I loved the gold exhibition, very well curated. I'm grateful that they let me in with my suitcase, as I had nowhere else to put it. I hope I can come back to see it better!
