Enjoy Søndermarken, Frederiksberg's old royal hunting ground turned people's park. Stroll beneath mature trees, spread out on the lawns, and peek over toward the neighbouring zoo.

📖

Full description

Søndermarken is a large, tree-filled park beside Copenhagen Zoo, open since 1852 and once a royal hunting ground. Locals use it for strolls, jogging and relaxing on grass, and reviewers note that some animals can be glimpsed for free from parts of the park.

Beneath it, three former cisterns house a subterranean art venue. Free to enter at all hours, it suits a 45-minute walk in any season, with families and couples among the regular visitors and occasional public gatherings and demonstrations adding to its character as the people's park.

Reviews

An absolutely stunning park just by the zoo, especially in sunny days. It is possible to see some animal for free from some part of the park.
