Cisterns in Søndermarken

4.3 ·

Descend into the Cisterns in Søndermarken, a cool underground reservoir turned art space. Walk the damp, dripping cave-like halls to experience whatever installation or performance currently fills the dark.

📖

Full description

The Cisterns lie beneath Søndermarken in Frederiksberg, a vast subterranean reservoir whose dripping cave-like space now hosts art installations and events. Reviewers note it stays pleasantly cool in summer, that the floor can be damp underfoot and that it feels chilly enough to warrant a warm layer.

Recent shows, including a Marina Abramovic work built around opera deaths, were praised for how well the setting amplifies the art. A visit takes about 45 minutes, and the budget-friendly entry and low walking effort make it an easy, unusual add-on to a day in the park above.

Reviews

Very cool (literally) in summer heat. You may get wet feet. I am not a big fan of performance art but the opera was very beautiful. For statistical survey when they asked me where I am from, I said „Taiwan“, they marked me under „China“, so I asked them to remove it. Therefore three star.
