Wander Kastellet, Copenhagen's star-shaped fortress with grassy ramparts. Circle the earthworks, pass the military buildings at its centre, and pause for a quiet moment away from the city bustle.

📖

Full description

Kastellet is a star-shaped 17th-century fortress whose grassy ramparts and moat make for one of Copenhagen's quietest walks. Reviewers describe the greenery on the embankments as a highlight, along with the military buildings at the centre that give the site a living, working character.

A museum sits within the grounds, and the fortress occasionally hosts events and concerts. People come here to stroll the ramparts, read, picnic, or approach it by public ferry.

Open from early morning until evening, it works well as a calm counterpoint to the busy centre.

Reviews

Great peaceful spot in the city. Nice to walk around the star shaped greenery. There is a military base in the middle, which is quite interesting. I got a public ferry here which was a great way to travel. Also, it’s close to the little mermaid statue if you’re interested in seeing that.
